Student Groups, Teens for Vaccines & GENup Applaud Governor Newsom's Minimum Standard for Vaccine Mandates at California Schools
SAN FRANCISCO, CA – On October 2, 2021, after weeks of advocating for school districts to increase COVID-19 protections, Teens for Vaccines and Generation Up issued statements to thank Gov. Newsom for putting students’ education and health first by issuing a minimum standard for vaccine mandates across the state:
“Teen for Vaccines has been asking school districts around the state to mandate vaccines, but sadly we know many will not act without statewide policy. We appreciate the Governor helping our efforts by setting a clear minimum for all schools. And we’re going to keep working till all students can return to school safely!”- Arin Parsa, founder of Teens for Vaccines
“We deeply appreciate Governor Newsom listening to students who are speaking up across the state asking for their schools to enact policies that protect student health and safety. Although the Governor’s vaccine floor mandate represents a much needed first step in ensuring that every Californian student is vaccinated, there still remains a lot of work left to do to and we’re ready to keep fighting for it!”- Cady Chen and Kimiya Attar, Generation Up
“Students want to stay in school and learn. This is a smart first step at setting a minimum standard for student vaccine mandates that school districts can meet.”- Crystal Strait, ProtectUS Board Member
