Arin Parsa, CA
Founder of Teens for Vaccines
Since the measles outbreaks of 2019, not much has changed in teen education and empowerment for our "own" immunizations. School curriculums do not cover vaccine schedules & doses. Traditional vaccine FAQs are designed for parents, not for teens, let alone being tailored for the needs of LGBTQIA+ peers. School-based health centers aren't available to all of us. And the patch work of minor consent laws continues.
We envision a world in which all teens have access to vaccines and can consent to them; a world in which schools empower teens with a strong science and public health foundation. Education is the best antidote to disinformation! It is with this vision that we have, we continue to help teens in every way possible and work with state health departments, immunization coalitions, school boards, health practitioners, legislators, and parents, to create agency for us teens.
Arin Parsa, the founder of Teens for Vaccines had started out with helping teens on Reddit since the measles outbreaks of 2019. Today, with the visibility Teens for Vaccines has had in the media, teens are now reaching out to us through our website and Instagram. However, we continue to actively seek out to help teens (and even adults) on Reddit. These are teens of of anti-vax or vaccine-hesitant parents, teens who suffer from fear of needles or have severe anxiety, teens who are trying to convince a loved one to get a vaccine, or those with general questions on vaccine safety. Most of our work happens 1:1 with teens given each teen's situation is unique. However, these messages will given an insight into our efforts to provide trusted information on vaccines and be a shoulder to lean for those who can't get vaccines.
